The experience included a campus tour, hands-on cybersecurity escape rooms, and an engaging Q&A session with CSU professors. Students gained valuable insight into college opportunities and career pathways in the fast-growing field of cybersecurity.

“This is a very talented group of singers,” Mrs. McCrae shared. “They have grown tremendously, now performing in four-part harmony and even preparing a foreign language piece for their spring concert.”

Supported by proud families and HCSD staff, the students delivered a performance that brought the stadium to life—earning thunderous applause from the crowd.

Formula Carver Racing delivered a strong showing at the Greenpower USA race at Inspire Academy in LaFayette, AL.

Car #312 (8th grade) finished 5th, and Car #311 (7th grade) took 6th in a competitive field—but the real win was the teamwork on display.

Just minutes before a heat, the 7th grade team discovered a flat tire on the grid. They returned to pit lane, repaired it, and made it back in under five minutes.

“That moment said everything about who these students are—no panic, just teamwork,” said advisor Mr. Christopher McCalla.

From quick pit repairs to student-led race data, every role mattered.

As one parent shared, “That’s what winning looks like.”

Proud of the grit, growth, and teamwork from Formula Carver Racing.

Harris County’s Girls Who Code chapter continues to lead the way! 💻✨

Through a partnership with Columbus State University and Synovus Women in Technology (WIT), students helped create a unique coding competition for girls across the region. Beginning in August, GWC presidents Kimberly Waters and Addison White collaborated with professors and college students to design a challenging and supportive environment for participants.

Harris County High School sent two teams to compete against schools in Muscogee County, earning impressive 2nd and 3rd place finishes! 🏆👏“I am very proud of the hard work and dedication of these young women, not only for competing, but for creating a competition unlike anything around.” - Katie Sizemore

In addition, Harris County High School computer science students recently participated in Cyber Inspire, an event hosted by Aflac on April 7 at the Columbus Trade Center. The event welcomed more than 800 young women and focused on teaching and empowering students in cybersecurity through engaging activities and hands-on experiences.

“We look forward to the opportunity to bring our girls again next year. Our only regret is not being able to take every girl in the school!” — Katie Sizemore

Harris County Schools is proud of these students and their leadership in expanding opportunities for girls in technology. 💙 #GirlsWhoCode #HarrisCountyPride #WomenInTech #Cybersecurity

MCE Spreads Joy by Decorating Paper Grocery Bags for MIOSM and YAM

Mulberry Creek Elementary School recently brought creativity into the community through a special project celebrating Music in Our Schools Month and Youth Art Month. Students teamed up to decorate paper bags for the local supermarket in Cataula, Billy’s, turning an everyday item into a colorful showcase of student talent.

Each grade level contributed unique designs inspired by music, art, and positivity. Some students drew bright musical notes, instruments, and quotes, while others created imaginative patterns, springtime scenes, and bold abstract artwork. The project gave students a chance to express themselves while also learning about the importance of the arts in education.

Once completed, the decorated bags were delivered to Billy’s, where they are now being used to brighten customers’ shopping experience. Community members have enjoyed seeing the students’ creativity on display, making a simple trip to the store more cheerful and meaningful.

The project not only celebrated two important national observances but also strengthened the connection between the school and the local community. Through their artwork, Mulberry Creek Elementary students shared a message about the value of the arts and creativity, leaving a lasting impression far beyond the classroom.

Just in time for spring planting, the Educational Opportunity Center/PLC received a meaningful boost to its growing space. Mr. Garvin Gourie, business mentor for the SEED Program, generously donated two additional garden beds—an investment not only in the garden, but in the students and community it serves.

At the heart of the EOC/PLC, the SEED Program continues to flourish as an empathy-driven initiative rooted in community development and support. Through hands-on experiences, participants explore agriculture, science, mathematics, and gardening while also building critical social-emotional skills.

With each new season—and now, with even more space to grow—students are cultivating more than crops. They’re nurturing responsibility, connection, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

🎨 Harris County Students Honored at Capitol Art Exhibit 🎨

Harris County student artists were recognized on Wednesday, March 12, at the annual Capitol Art Exhibit in Atlanta—marking the statewide kickoff of Youth Art Month and celebrating the exhibition’s 50th anniversary.

Families, students, and art teachers gathered near the Georgia State Capitol for an evening filled with pride and excitement as young artists from across the state showcased their work.

State Representatives Carmen Rice and Vance Smith welcomed the Harris County group and provided a special behind-the-scenes experience, including a private tour of the Capitol. Students had the opportunity to visit the House of Representatives chamber and learn more about Georgia’s government and history.

Organized by the Georgia Art Education Association, the Capitol Art Exhibit is the largest statewide student art show, featuring artists from pre-kindergarten through college. The event also serves as an important opportunity to advocate for arts education and connect with state leaders.

State Superintendent Richard Woods was also in attendance, reinforcing the importance of the arts in Georgia’s schools.

👏 Congratulations to our talented students for representing Harris County so well!
