School Lunch Angels Donation Expands Meal Support for Harris County Students

Harris County Schools announces a generous donation from School Lunch Angels to support student meal accounts, ensuring more children can start each day nourished and ready to learn.

“School Lunch Angels is truly a blessing for our students—not just at Creekside, but throughout Harris County,” said Jennifer Sappington, Principal of Creekside Intermediate. “It’s important that our kids eat. We have to keep them safe and make sure they come to school fed.

Dr. Erin Miley Earns Doctor of Education (EdD) in Curriculum and Instruction

Harris County Schools is proud to announce that Dr. Erin Miley has successfully completed her Doctor of Education (EdD) in Curriculum and Instruction. Following a successful dissertation defense, her degree is currently in the conferral process, with the official diploma forthcoming this month. Dr. Miley will participate in the university’s commencement ceremony in May 2026.

Erin Miley Receives Statewide STEAM Honor

Harris County Schools celebrates Erin Miley, K-12 Curriculum Coordinator, who was recognized at the GaDOE STEAM Forum in Athens, Georgia on Thursday, October 2nd for exceptional leadership in STEAM education by receiving the "Key to CTAE Success" Golden Key Award!

Under Miley’s guidance, every Harris County elementary school earned STEAM certification—making Harris County the first county in Georgia to reach this milestone.

HCCMS Lady Tigers Crowned West GA League Volleyball Champions After Perfect Season!! 🏐🏆

The HCCMS Lady Tigers Volleyball Team has officially claimed the West GA Volleyball League Championship, capping off a historic undefeated season at 16-0. The victory marks the 10th volleyball championship in the storied history of the HCCMS volleyball program.

Entering the playoffs as the #1 seed, the Lady Tigers hosted the Final Four on their home court at Harris County Carver Middle School. In the semifinal, the Tigers faced off against the Long Cane Cougars, battling through a best 2-out-of-3 matchup to secure their spot in the championship game.

Carver Tiger Robotics Makes Strong Debut at VEX IQ Trailblazer Back to School Bash

Carver Tiger Robotics made an impressive first showing at the VEX IQ Trailblazer Back to School Bash, where 43 teams from 11 schools competed in a day-long robotics competition.

After a slow start, both the 7th- and 8th-grade teams from Carver Middle School quickly adapted, revising their strategies and steadily improving their points average with each round. By the end of six qualifying rounds, the stage was set for the finals.

Superintendent Finney Showcases Harris County Schools’ Academic Achievements, Career Programs, and Safety Initiatives

Harris County School District Superintendent Dr. Justin Finney addressed the Harris County Republican Party at its monthly meeting last Thursday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post on Highway 27. His remarks highlighted the district’s outstanding academic performance, expanding career pathways, and significant investments in school safety.

“Our students continue to perform at or above proficiency levels set by the state,” said Dr. Finney. “In many areas, Harris County ranks at the very top in Georgia. That’s a testament to our dedicated teachers, administrators, and supportive community.”

Mulberry Creek Elementary School Receives GaDOE’s Prestigious John Hancock Award

HAMILTON, Ga. — Harris County School District congratulates Mulberry Creek Elementary School on being selected for the Georgia Department of Education’s John Hancock Award, recognizing schools that demonstrate excellence in cursive instruction.

Georgia’s John Hancock Award honors elementary, middle, and high schools that go above and beyond in teaching cursive writing — a timeless skill that strengthens fine motor development, boosts reading and writing fluency, and helps students connect directly with historical texts.

State School Superintendent Richard Woods visited Mulberry Creek Elementary on Friday, September 12, 2025, to present the award. During the celebration, each 4th grade student received a booklet, The Words That Built America, underscoring the connection between cursive literacy and the nation’s founding documents.

The LEAP Program at Harris County Schools is celebrating a generous gift from the community: a brand-new playground designed to give students a safe and supportive space to relieve stress and build connections.

LEAP (Learning, Enrichment, and Academic Progress) supports students with emotional and behavioral challenges. Since its establishment three years ago in Harris County, the program has worked to provide resources that help students succeed both academically and personally.

His work is vital, not only providing a safe route for those traveling through Harris County, but also making sure our parents, students, and staff arrive and leave campus safely each day.

Harris County High School graduate Joey Gibbs, Class of 2025, claimed second place in the nation in plumbing at the 2025 SkillsUSA National Championships, June 23–27, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Representing both HCHS and the state of Georgia, Gibbs showcased his expertise among more than 18,000 competitors at the prestigious event.
