Harris Countyβs Girls Who Code chapter continues to lead the way! π»β¨
Through a partnership with Columbus State University and Synovus Women in Technology (WIT), students helped create a unique coding competition for girls across the region. Beginning in August, GWC presidents Kimberly Waters and Addison White collaborated with professors and college students to design a challenging and supportive environment for participants.
Harris County High School sent two teams to compete against schools in Muscogee County, earning impressive 2nd and 3rd place finishes! ππβI am very proud of the hard work and dedication of these young women, not only for competing, but for creating a competition unlike anything around.β - Katie Sizemore
In addition, Harris County High School computer science students recently participated in Cyber Inspire, an event hosted by Aflac on April 7 at the Columbus Trade Center. The event welcomed more than 800 young women and focused on teaching and empowering students in cybersecurity through engaging activities and hands-on experiences.
βWe look forward to the opportunity to bring our girls again next year. Our only regret is not being able to take every girl in the school!β β Katie Sizemore
Harris County Schools is proud of these students and their leadership in expanding opportunities for girls in technology. π #GirlsWhoCode #HarrisCountyPride #WomenInTech #Cybersecurity
