Harris County student artists earned outstanding recognition in the 2026 Creative Youth Art League (CYAL) Juried Exhibition at the LaGrange Art Museum, with numerous students receiving top placements, merit awards, and prestigious summer camp scholarships. The exhibition, held from April 26 through May 9, showcased exceptional student artwork from across the region and celebrated the creativity of young artists of all ages.
Among the special honors, Cole Wilson of New Mountain Hill received a LAM Board of Governors Summer Camp Scholarship in the K-2 division, while Summer Knight of Harris County High School earned the high school scholarship award. Harris County students also claimed multiple first-place recognitions, including Cole Wilson (Mixed Media, K-2), Halle Davis (Mixed Media, grades 3-4), Alaina Thompson (Painting, middle school), Eli Grimsley (Sculpture/Ceramics, middle school), and Shiori Thomas (Mixed Media, high school).
Additional awards were earned by students from Creekside Intermediate, Harris County Carver Middle School, Harris County High School, and New Mountain Hill, further highlighting the remarkable artistic talent found throughout Harris County Schools.
The achievements of these young artists reflect not only their creativity, dedication, and hard work, but also the commitment of Harris County’s art educators, who continue to inspire and nurture artistic excellence at every grade level.

The competition challenged students to demonstrate how technology can support their transition to future education and the workforce through essays and presentations. Johnathan’s hard work, creativity, and dedication helped him earn this outstanding recognition among students from across Georgia.
We congratulate Johnathan on this incredible achievement and are excited to see all he accomplishes in the future. His success reflects the determination, innovation, and excellence represented by our students each day.

Grace Metsinger, first grade teacher of Mulberry Creek Elementary School, was recently surprised with the “One Class At A Time” award, recognizing teachers who go above and beyond for their students each and every day.
Students, coworkers, and supporters gathered to celebrate Metsinger’s commitment to not only educating children, but caring for them as individuals.
“It’s really good to be appreciated,” Metsinger said. “Just to be seen — not just by the students, but by the parents too — and for them to see how much we really do care about these babies and their children, not just as students, but as people.”
Principal Amy Allen praised Metsinger’s dedication, saying she works hard to personally know each student and help them become the best they can be.
The “One Class At A Time” initiative helps recognize outstanding educators while also providing additional classroom support and resources. The award was sponsored by Daniel Appliance and community supporter Ron Daniel.
Congratulations to Grace Metsinger for making a lasting difference in the lives of her students! 👏📚❤️
