The 8th grade science curriculum focuses on helping understand the physical world around them.
In the first 9 weeks, we will review metrics, safety, and the scientific method. We will also learn about simple machines and Newton's Laws of Motion.
In the second 9 weeks, the focus turns to atoms, elements and chemistry. We will talk about the Periodic Table of the Elements, the structure of matter (solids, liquids, gases and plasmas), how materials interact with each other.
In the third 9 weeks, the focus becomes about energy, including energy forms, how energy changes and how energy moves from place to place. This includes learning about electrical circuits, electromagnets, generators and motors.
In the fourth 9 weeks, we turn our attention to waves, including light and sound. We will learn how the human body perceives waves and how waves interact with one another.
